August 21, 2007 - CMAA at Shea Stadium 

Despite a rainy afternoon, and a gloomy weather forecast, the (real) CMAA Mets fans were in attendance Tuesday evening August 21 to watch the NY Mets take on the San Diego Padres at Shea Stadium.  Attendees  watched a thrilling 9th inning comeback, walk off victory by the NY Mets (7-6).  The NY/NJ Chapter improved their home town record to a perfect 5-0. (NY Mets 2-0 and NY Yankees 3-0).  The Chapter puts its perfect record back on the line again on Sept 21 at Yankee Stadium when the Yankees take on the Baltimore Orioles.

Four!!!!!!!  CMAA on July 24, 2007 held its second annual golf outing which was attended by over 80 CM professionals.  The day was picture perfect for a game of golf and the Westchester Country Club catered to our every whim to ensure a good time was had by all.  Golf was preceded by an outdoor barbeque where CM professional gathered and networked before heading out to the course.  At the end of the 18 holes all traveled to the main dining room for dinner and prizes.  CMAA Congratulates all of our top golf players and to those who just played for fun.  Join us next year as this is the one of our best events yet!

June 8, 2007 - CMAA Fourteenth Annual Awards Banquet

On June 8, 2007 CMAA held its Fourteenth Annual Awards Banquet. An astounding 175+ Construction Management Professional attended this event to congratulate this year's award winners.  Awards for Excellence in Construction Management were provided to projects in both the public and private sectors including StructureTone as CM for the Gibson Newark Headquarters project, URS Corp as CM for the Flight 587 Memorial project, TRITEC as CM for the SMSC Corporate Headquarters project, Bovis Lend Lease as CM for Times Square Subway Station project and MTA NYC Transit as CM for the Vent Plant Rehabilitation project. This year CMAA was able to provide five scholarships for outstanding achievement to students attending local schools.  Robert Bennett was awarded Chapter Achievement for all of his years of outstanding service to the CMAA Metro NY/NJ Chapter.
 

February 2007 - IECM Conference in Phuket, Thailand (International Engineering and Construction Management)

The first IECM (International Engineering and Construction Management) conference held in Phuket, Thailand in early February. This year’s event was organized by Rabco Engineering Thailand with sponsoring organizations including:

CMAA (Construction Management Association of America) Metro NY/NJ Chapter
CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) Ascot, UK
ICPMA (International Construction Project Management Association)
PWC (Professional Women in Construction)
For those who attended, we trust it was a rewarding and enjoyable experience. There were several distinguished guests from across the US, Europe, and Asia providing us with interesting and fascinating insights on doing work in SE Asia. A local trade show exhibit, a construction site tour to Phi Phi Island, and several networking functions were also included in the program.

For those interested in some additional international flavor, the CMAA Metro NY/NJ Chapter will be hosting the ICPMA conference from May 11- May 13, 2007 at the Yale Club in New York City. Additional information will be forthcoming on the NY/NJ Chapter of the CMAA website (www.cmaanet.org).

In addition, we hope to organize a second IECM conference next year at the same Hilton Arcadia Resort in Thailand. PMI Bangkok (Project Management Institute) has indicated an initial positive response to join and participate as well as a sponsor. Initial target date is end February/ early March 2008. Additional details to be forthcoming as they are arranged.

September 26, 2006 - Annual Night at Yankee Stadium 

CMAA hosted its annual night at Yankee Stadium with the Honorable Adolfo Carrión, Bronx Borough President.  The night started with dinner in the Great Moments room followed by a presentation made by the Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrión, who outlined the boroughs proud development efforts.  In particular he discussed the Yankee Stadium Neighborhood Redevelopment Program, the relocation of the Fulton Fish Market, Bronx Terminal Market and the conversion of the Old Sears Building.  Following the presentation CMAA attendees enjoyed watching the Yankees play the Baltimore Orioles, Yankees won 5 to 4.

November 8, 2006 - BIM/4D Scheduling Luncheon 

November 8, 2006, CMAA  and PMI College of Scheduling hosted an educational luncheon to discuss Building Information Modeling and 4D Scheduling presented by HCI CPM Consultants Inc. at the Yale Club.  Attendees learned how BIM and 4D Scheduling can help improve a projects schedule and quality and how it can reduce the amount of costly changes.  Members were offered educational credits at this event.

August 23, 2006, NYC Council Member Tony Avella and Richard Browne – NY Mets Development Company, New Mets’ Ballpark 

 

The landscape is changing now that the Mets organization's winning ways are sweeping the city.  A host of members gathered to hear President Frank Corona highlight events including the superiorly planned golf outing, the visit to Yankee Stadium in September, and the upcoming CMAA National Conference in October. Amongst the Chapter's Advisory Board in attendance were Porie Saikia-Eapen, most recent past President, Raoul Ilaw, Dominick Fickeria, and Jay Gewirtzman. The evening's meeting highlight included: presentations by Council member Tony Avella, representing the 19th District and Chair of the New York City Council Zoning and Franchises Committee who elaborated on the pending development for the neighborhood across 126th Street and within the current Shea Stadium area including 2,200 potential parking spaces to support Shea Stadium events, development of 75 acre site that currently comprises some 225 firms who employee approximately 1400-1600 people and a $50M rehabilitation of the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge as a part of the area's overall infrastructure improvement  plan, and Mr. Richard Browne, the New Shea Stadium Owner's representative who provided a synopsis of the planned 45,000 person capacity, pre-cast brick panel facade emulating Ebbets Field that will incorporate many of the latest features for sports venue design and function. Construction of the new ballpark has already commenced and is scheduled to be completed for the 2009 season.   The combination of the new stadium construction and area development are expected to a boon for  business, housing, and retail, providing the attraction for people throughout the year.   Additionally, members were treated to a fans delight of food and beverage, in the Left Field Terrace Suite, before a resounding Mets victory over the St Louis Cardinals.  The Mets won, making the home team 3 – 0 when the CMAA is in attendance.

CMAA Metro New York/New Jersey Chapter hosted a presentation on construction programs with Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi.  Attendees were treated to an assessment of current challenges facing the state of New York.  Leading the nation, or in the words of Mr Suozzi "There are great possibilities to making New York the best-the Empire State on the way to becoming great once again." will challenge the way education, property taxes, in-state job expansion, legislative processes, receptiveness for businesses and government structure are viewed.  A challenging statistic for the audience was that some 14% of voters actually vote in the primaries and encourage more to take part in this important part of the election process.

June 2, 2006 - CMAA Annual Awards Luncheon

 
On June 2, 2006 CMAA held its thirteenth Awards Banquet. An astounding 175 Construction Management Professional attended this event to congratulate this year's award winners.  Awards for Excellence in Construction Management were provided to projects in both the public and private sectors including StructureTone as CM for the Top of the Rock and GSO Capital Partners projects, DMJM Harris as CM for the Jamaica Transportation project, Gilbane Company as CM for the Comprehensive Cancer Center project, MTA NYCT as CM for Subway Tunnel Rehabilitation and Tunnel Lighting project and Hill International as CM for the Roof Reconstruction-Museum of the City of New York project.  This year CMAA was able to provide four scholarships for outstanding achievement to students attending local schools majoring in construction management Polytechnic University received the School Recognition Award for its efforts in supporting Construction Management through their curriculum and their students support of CMAA through their student chapter.  Porie Saikia-Eapen was awarded Chapter Achievement

April 4, 2006 Event - Building Commissioning Process

 

On April CMAA presented Michael English President of the Building Commissioning Association.  Mr. English reviewed with CMAA the process of commissioning and importance to achieve a successful project.  He defined Commissioning as a process of providing documented confirmation that building systems function in compliance with criteria set forth in the Project Documents to satisfy the owner's operational needs. This definition is based on the critical understanding that the owner must have some means of verifying that their functional needs are rigorously addressed during design, construction and acceptance.

March 7, 2006 – Arthur Silber, Chief, THE Tunnel Project, NJ Transit

 

CMAA Metro NY/NJ held its first program of 2006 on March 7 presenting Arthur Silber, NJ Transit who spoke on the $6 Billion Trans-Hudson Express Project (THE).  Well over 100 CM professional attended the event to gain valuable information regard the “THE” project.  “THE” project proposes to build a new tunnel located under the Hudson River near the existing Northeast Corridor tracks to the vicinity of Penn Station New York.  This new tunnel allows NJTransit to handle the growing demand of commuters who travel to and from New Jersey each day.  Currently, NJ Transit completed the EIS in October 2005 and will resubmit this spring for approval.  The FEIS is expected to be completed in late 2006.  Construction commencement is scheduled for 2009 to begin the tunnel and it is expected that the project will be complete by December 2015.

November 15, 2005: Charles Maikish presents plans for rebuilding Lower Manhattan
CMAA’s November 15, 2005 event was held at the Yale Club and presented Charles Maikish, Executive Director, Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center.  Mr. Maikish discussed his plan for all of Lower Manhattan’s construction coordination and the Command Center's function and key role in rebuilding the area south of Canal Street. He noted that the LMCCC‘s operational statement is to “facilitate, mitigate and communicate”.  Some of the key functions that the LMCCC is charged with include construction coordination, fraud prevention and communication for the $22 billion worth of work expected to take place in the coming years.  This massive amount of construction will require the LMCCC to implement innovative ideas such as just-in-time deliveries to alleviate traffic congestion and labor mobility plans to allow the efficient flow of construction workers who will be required to perform the work.  He mentioned that there are plenty of opportunities in Lower Manhattan for Construction Managers.  Projects to be built in Lower Manhattan in the coming years include the new Goldman Sac’s building, the Freedom Tower, multiple transit projects, cultural projects, real estate development projects and other misc. projects.  Peak construction times are expected between years 2007 and 2008 and all work will take place within one square mile in Lower Manhattan.

 

November 8, 2005 - Alan Hantman, FAIA, Architect of the Capitol
A joint dinner meeting was conducted by the Mid-Atlantic and the NY/NJ Chapters of CMAA on Tuesday November 8, 2005 on the campus of Princeton University in New Jersey. Mr. Alan Hantman, FAIA, Architect of the Capitol, offered a presentation on the various duties and projects at our nation's Capitol Building complex. The position of  Architect of the Capitol has been in continuous existence since 1793, and Mr. Hantman is only the 10th person in that rich long history. The CMAA dinner/presentation was enjoyed by over 90 attendees. For further information, see www.aoc.gov.

 

October 18, 2005: Owners Panel - What do owners expect from the CM and Various Project Delivery Methods Preferred by Owners in NY 

On October 18, 2005 CMAA hosted an Owners Panel featuring owners such as Angelo Tomasetti, Program Manager/Deputy Chief Engineer - NYCT, Frank Lombardi, Chief Engineer - Port Authority, David J. Burney, AIA - Commissioner of NYC Department of Design and Construction, Mark H. Hasso, Ph.D., PE, Professor of Construction Management - Wentworth Institute of Technology and Richard Smyth, Vice President for Redevelopment - Jet Blue Airlines.  This evening the room was filled with eager Construction Management professional looking to gather valuable information on the expectations of the City’s top Construction Management Owners.  Some of the key points made by the panel included the need for CM’s to provide added value and not just be a “hired hand”, effective communication, collaboration, proactive approaches and commissioning.  Owners not only discussed what is expected of the CM’s but also addressed what Owners can do differently to aid in a projects success.

September 21st, 2005
CMAA Metro NY/NJ held their annual Yankee Stadium Dinner/Program/Game.  The Program, held in the Great Moments Room, presented the Honorable Adolfo Carrion, Jr., Bronx Borough President.  Mr. Carrion discussed his many accomplishments to lowering the unemployment rate in the Bronx particularly through real estate development.  An exciting presentation was given about the development plans for the long awaited new Yankee Stadium.  He explained that the existing stadium would be preserved and made accessible to the public as a little league field, destination spot and a village green for the community and house the Yankee Hall of Fame and Museum.  Included as part of the New Yankee Stadium Development project is the New Yankee Stadium, a New Hotel and Conference Center, a New Fitness Center and a New High School for Sports Industry Careers.  He also mentioned that the development would include major transportation and infrastructure improvements such as a new ferry terminal and new metro north station and new entertainment and recreation projects such as the site for the 2012 velodrome and a new Bronx Terminal Market Retail Center. The presentation was followed by a game featuring the New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles, once again CMAA proudly displayed their name on the big screen and YANKEES WON 2:1!!

August 16, 2005
CMAA presented both Kevin Bunker, Director Property Management for the General Services Agency and Douglas Van Vleck, Managing Director of Construction for the Dormitory Authority of State of New York.  Both speakers discussed the many opportunities for Construction Managers within their organizations.  Mr.. Bunker exclaimed that the current capital program is larger than normal and includes such projects as the Renovation at 26 Federal Plaza and two New Courthouses in Rochester and Syracuse.  Douglas Van Vleck also spoke of an incredible capital program which included 692 active projects worth $4.4B.  At the conclusion of both presentations attendees asked many questions including a question regarding GSA and DASNY's take on preferred construction delivery methods.  GSA and DASNY were both enthusiastic on discussing these issues since they too were interested in the CM industry preferred delivery methods.  Q&A among the speakers and attends lasted for almost an hour. In addition to the presentations Nancy Goshow introduced the Women Builder's Council (WBC).  She stated staggering statistics such that less than 3% of fees are paid out to women owned business in the marketplace.  She also explained that WBC is a newly formed organization whose goal is not only to promote women in the Building industry but to support the economic development of WBE's.

July 12, 2005
At the July Event, CMAA presented several speakers for the night’s event. Kicking off the night was Mr. Robert Fraga, principal contracting officer for facilities work, US Postal Service. Mr. Fraga is responsible for the purchasing, planning, award and contract administration of all major facility projects over $10 million. The budget of this unit is $300-$500 million. Mr. Fraga explained that he had a limited staff and therefore relied heavily on suppliers especially construction managers. Mr. Fraga also reviewed some of the US Post Office Strategies which included Value Engineering, Design/Build, Electronic Commerce, Process Improvement, and Standardization of Product/Equipment. One of the main goals of the USPS is to reduce the number of suppliers by building long term relationships with the best suppliers. He also discussed the idea of looking at his business as Asset Management in lieu of the traditional A/E/C approach; thereby creating value. He explained that CM opportunities can be as Agency CM and also utilizes Design/Build contracts; he explained that the USPS holds all contracts. USPS is also currently utilizing the services of a Program Manager who currently is Parsons Infrastructure. A new organization was introduced at the event, Women's Business Council (WBC) . Ms. Sandra Wilken explained that the organization was created to support women owned business and professionals in the construction industry. It was announced that WBC and CMAA are supportive of each other and therefore can attend events at the respective organizations member prices. Lastly , Joseph Seibold and Bruce D’Agostino addressed the group on the happenings of CMAA on a National level. They discussed the importance of professionalizing Construction Management through the Construction Manager Certification and stated that there are currently 600 CCMs and over 300 applicants in process.
 

June 10, 2005 - 12th Annual Awards Banquet

Over 210 Construction Management professionals attended this year’s 12th annual awards banquet at the Yale Club.  After careful review of countless nominated projects ,  6 awards were presented to both public and private projects ranging from $8M to over $60M.  Projects were evaluated based on exemplarily use of Construction Management Techniques.  The banquet commenced with a packed cocktail hour where projects proudly displayed their picture boards and where industry professionals mingled with industry owners and other professionals. CMAA awarded the Owner Agency of the Year Award to Capital Program Management, MTA – NYCT  for their exemplary effort in the utilization of Construction Management techniques.  Both  Laurence Reuter and Connie Crawford graciously accepted this award and provided many thanks to the MTA-NYCT staff. CMAA provided four $2,000 scholarships to students in the tri-state area who met high academic standards.  CMAA also provided a special recognition to Farmingdale State University for their Construction Management Program. In attendance at this years banquet was CMAA National Executive Director, Bruce D’Agostino who provided an overview of CMAA efforts this year and who congratulated the New York Chapter for doing such a great job promoting Construction Management. Lastly a special honor was given to Isaac Washington who was awarded CMAA Chapter Achievement Award of the Year.  Mr. Washington’s mother proudly accepted the award on behalf of Isaac who is currently in the Middle East under the US Army Corps of Engineering putting forth best CM practices to work to defend our countries freedom.

April 19, 2005 - Marcelo Velez, Assistant Vice President, Columbia University Department of Design and Construction unveils “Manhattanville” plans, Columbia’s new expanded campus.
Marcelo Velez presented to over 120 CM professionals Columbia University’s current and upcoming expansion programs.  Mr. Velez touched on the University’s need to expand due to basic supply and demand.  He explained that the University’s enrollment is on the rise and that Columbia is exhausting their current real estate. Mr. Velez reviewed the current program of renovating and building new academic, administrative and housing projects.  Mr. Velez also spoke on the University’s $4.6 billion plan for expansion into West Harlem.  This expansion project is known as the “Manhattanville Expansion” and would extend from West 125th to West 133rd streets between Broadway and 12th Avenue.   The plan includes 16 new building and the renovation of three buildings.  This expansion will include academic, administrative, research and science, residential and recreational facilities.  Currently the University is working with City for zoning regulations since this area is primarily manufacturing. Mr. Velez stated that this expansion project would provide many opportunities for Construction Managers.

March 29, 2005- Tour of NYC’s Third Water Tunnel-600 feet below ground

CMAA Metro NY/NJ Chapter gives many thanks to the DEP for conducting a tour of the Construction Site of NYC’s third water tunnel at the West Side Yards on Tuesday. The preview of the project was outlined by DEP’s Director of Construction Mr. Paul Zoltanetzky. Attendees were given the opportunity to travel 600 feet down the shaft into the bored water tunnel to witness the results of the tunnel boring machine (TBM).  The tour, split into two groups underground was led by
Ted Dewey and Michael Matsko of the project team.  Peter Reynolds, the safety engineer provided the safety procedures explanations before the tour. The TBM which was lowered in sections and assembled at the bottom of the shaft is capable to boring 50' per day with a diameter of 23 feet.  Viewers were amazed by the smoothness of the rock after it was bored which resembled concrete. DEP expects the portion at the West Side location to be completed at by 2008.

March 22, 2005: March 22, 2005 - Long Island's Chief County Executives address CMAA Members
The second event of the year 2005 (the first in Long Island for 2005) welcomed over 150 attendees at Chateau Briand in Carle Place Long Island. The program organizers found this new venue to accommodate the large audience we witnessed last year in Long Island which not only provided us a spacious room but also with great food and service. The high light of the evening was of course the double presentations by the two most powerful people on Long Island; County executives Thomas Suozzi, Nassau County and Steve Levy, Suffolk County. Both Executives emphatically spoke about their plans programs and vision for their counties. Recently elected, both executives have full support of CMAA Metro Chapter in bringing their visions and goals to fruition.

February 15, 2005: Richard Smyth speaks on Jet Blue Airlines Capital Programs
On February 15, 2005, Richard Smyth, Vice President of Redevelopment for Jet Blue Airlines, presented at the Yale Club Jet Blue Airlines Capital Programs.  Mr. Smyth provided great insight as to the many opportunities for Construction Managers, such as the design build RFP for the design and construction of a parking garage structure at JFK which is scheduled to be released in a couple of months.  Mr. Smyth also discussed the construction of Terminal 5 at JFK which is in design and has an expected completion date of June 2008.  He also discussed the challenges that are being faced at JFK when working around the historic TWA building.

November 16, 2004: David Burney Speaks on NYCDDC’s 2005 Capital Program
This month’s presentation boasted an attendance of 100 Construction Management Professionals and was held at the Harbour Lights Restaurant at Pier 17, South Street Seaport.  The presenter, David Burney, Commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction, provided valuable information on DDC’s 2005 Capital Program and explained that the recent fiscal issues of New York City will not affect this program.  Mr. Burney provided insight on upcoming proposed projects such as the 200 bed dormitory construction project at Rikers Island , the Step Streets program, Queens Museum project and many other upcoming projects.  Mr. Burney also discussed DDC’s initiative on sustainable design and DDC’s commitment to quality in collaboration with the Mayor’s Design Excellence Initiative program.  Mr. Burney answered many important questions raised by the attendees and provided an overview of DDC’s extremely informative website www.ddc.nyc.gov.

October 26, 2004, Cosema Crawford Speaks about the MTA’s Proposed 12.1B Capital Budget Plan
At the October 26, 2004 monthly meeting CMAA presented Ms. Cosema Crawford, Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer of Capital Project Management of MTA NYCT, to discuss the many opportunities for in the design and construction area that will be available through the proposed $12.1Billion, 2005-09  five-year capital budget plan..  Ms. Crawford provided a historical perspective of the MTA-NYCT’s accomplishments as well as discussed all the proposed upcoming projects that will make up the $12.1 B plan.  Ms. Crawford also provided names of key contacts of the various divisions that will be involved in the proposed projects.  She encouraged all those interested in working with the MTA to meet with these individuals in order to learn more about the programs and to learn about possible business opportunities.

In addition to various future programs Ms. Crawford discussed  NYCT’s Sustainable Design and Commissioning  initiatives.  Ms. Crawford also identified NYCT’s proposed approached towards meeting the budget issues for the 2005-09 plan.

September 21, 2004, CMAA Event at Yankee Stadium
The first dinner  meeting in the Great Moments Room included a presentation on lessons learned while working at Yankee stadium.  The presentation was introduced by Charles Cellura of the New York City Department of Design and Construction. Construction Manager for the Yankee Stadium project, Frank Corona of URS Corporation details various sensitive issues of managing construction on and off season..  Following the presentation and dinner, all attendees watched the New York Yankees beat the the Toronto Blue Jays by 5 to 3.  During the fifth inning CMAA NYNJ Banner was proudly displayed on the big screen. Also at this meeting Porie Sakia-Eapen introduced the new board which included the new President Elect, Frank Corona, and new board members Dilip Massand, Palmina Teta Whelan and Christine Oates.  Porie Saikia-Eapen also thanked CMAA members who attended the conference and proudly displayed the award received from the National Conference for “Most Improved Chapter”. August 3, 2004 Dinner Event in New Jersey, Building the Second Avenue Subway
The year’s first New Jersey event was held jointly with the SAME (Society of Military Engineers) at The Hamilton Pub, Newark, New Jersey. The encore presentation of the logistics of Building the Second Avenue Subway was facilitated by MTA Capital construction’s Anil Parikh, PE, Program Manager, MTACC. And  Jeff Buck, ARUP DMJMHarris Project Manager. The 16 billion dollar MTA project is now scheduled to start construction in early 2005. The Tunnel Boring machine’s capabilities and sustainable construction issues were presented by the team in addition to a detailed presentation of the project.

July 13, 2004 Dinner Event in Manhattan, Fast Track Recovery of the Pentagon Project
Keynote speaker Walker Lee Evey, President Design Build Institute of America and CMAA's 2002 Person of the Year held the audience captive for over an hour with his presentation of the extraordinary effort to restore the 9/11 attack-damaged Pentagon to service as the its Program Manager for the 10-year, $4 billion Pentagon renovation project. Mr. Evey talked about how this team overcame their struggle with the "three hand maidens" of construction : Cost Over runs, Schedule Delays and Litigation. On leadership, Mr. Evey said "If you really want to perform, you don't just manage, you lead. Managing with leadership makes extraordinary things happen". His final word of advice was "Have faith in what you do, believe in what you do, you will not fail". For a rainy Tuesday evening in the middle of summer, we had an incredible attendance of over 60 people.

May 25, 2004 Dinner Meeting, Capital Program of Westchester County Speaker County Chief Executive Andrew J. Spano
The first Westchester County Dinner Meeting was held at Beckwith Pointe Club in New Rochelle, Westchester. The breath taking view of the Long Island Sound on three sides of this exquisite location encouraged the attendees to extend the cocktail hour a little longer than usual.  Guest speaker Andrew J. Spano, the Chief Executive of Westchester County got the audience’s full attention when he started unveiling many recently accepted, approved or proposed capital construction programs in the various towns of the county. Mr. Spano spoke at length about his plans for David’s Island and Glen Island which were in full view of the audience across the waters from the event hall. He identified phases and components of the River Walk  project connecting the towns on the Hudson River from Yonkers to Peekskill. He gave the audience a sneak preview of the County’s latest innovative plans for spending capital construction dollars on affordable housing in the town of Peekskill. Finally Mr. Spano spoke about the $ 385,000 study and assessment, which was announced today, on Indian Point’s future from the County’s perspective.

May 4, 2004 Dinner Event, Building the Second Avenue Subway
A very comprehensive and spellbinding presentation was made by Joseph Siano, Exec VP and Anil Parikh, Program Manager of MTA Capital Construction Company with  Frank Russo, VP of DMJM/Harris, consultant to the Second Ave Subway project for MTA Capital Construction Company. 
Mr. Siano provided a brief overview of the project including the history on various attempts over the years to build  this subway line. Today, Second Avenue Subway (SAS) is in its latest and final iteration and is ready to get built starting construction in 2004!  Mr. Anil Parikh provided further details of the project status, project phases and various design elements including entrances, ancilliary buildings and neighborhood impacts. Mr. Frank Russo discussed the construction challenges of the project and the team’s strategies to meet these challenges. The underground subway line is an 81/2 mile long, new two track line along Second Avenue from 125th Street to the Financial District in Lower Manhattan. Currently estimated at $17.5 billion. It includes 16 new and one retrofitted station at 63rd street for a Flexing Rail Connection. The line will have over 30 structures independent of the stations that will also be built to support the stations and the line. The project is scheduled to start construction by the end of 2004, and  the first section of the line to be completed in 2011 and the entire subway line  in 2020. April 12, 2004 Dinner Event in Manhattan
Paul Zoltanetzky, PE, Director of Construction NYC Department of Environmental Protection gave the audience a great upshot of some of the largest construction projects in the country that were and are managed by the Department. Paul discussed special efforts made by the construction managers engaged for these projects that made these projects successful. Victor Edwards, Director of Construction, NYC Department of Homeless Services, Special Guest of the evening,  presented to the audience the department's capital plan in managing and servicing the 250 homeless shelters with 35000 individuals and 15000 children in the system. Mr. Edwards identified specifics that the Department looks for in a Construction Management Company they engage to do their work in addition to announcing the upcoming CM Contracts the Department is gearing up to solicit. March 23, 2004 Dinner Event in Manhattan
The Dinner Event was made a grand success by the chapter members and CMAA supporters of the region with a glorious attendance of over 130 people. The focus was on the $ 6 billion Capital Program of New York City’s School Construction Authority. The guest speaker, Bill Goldstein, President of the NYC School Construction Authority elaborated on the current $6 billion dollar program and the extension of the same for another $6 billion in the pipeline. Mr. Goldstein has recently taken the helm of the SCA and is effectively rounding up the critical concerns of the Capital Program and facilitating its execution quickly.  For additional information on SCA visit www.nycsca.org. February 3, 2004 Dinner Event in Manhattan
The year's first dinner meeting was held on Feb 3rd at Rosie O'Grady's. The CM Perspective of GSA and CM Certification was presented by Robert Hixon,PE of GSA. Even through a rainy, cold and clammy weather, the dinner was attended by approximately 85 people. Christine Keville, CMAA's National President addressed the audience, updated on National Affairs and introduced Robert Hixon. November 12, 2003 Dinner Event in Long Island
First Long Island Dinner Event and Membership drive held at Westbury Manor organized by Director Membership Joseph Hurley. Speakers were Charles Bartha, Commissioner, Suffolk County DPW, Peter Gerbasi, Commissioner, Nassau County DPW and Anne Papageorge, Acting Commissioner NYC Dept of Design and Construction. Event attended by 125 members and non-members. Raoul Ilaw, National Director, presented the speakers with a one-year membership to CMAA.
